Educator Preparation Council Minutes
The Educator Preparation Council meetings included discussions on Educator Preparation Program admissions, updates on education majors, mathematics education program reviews, and MAASE reports. The council also discussed MAEL programs, alternative certification, and a proposed doctoral program. Additional topics included a driving waiver requirement, assistance for Thelma Parks Elementary, important dates, and special recognition for Mr. Tim Haws. Later meetings covered updates from Dr. Case on graduate programs, alumni surveys, a proposal for undergraduate education majors to take graduate courses, and a new honors recognition for undergraduate education seniors. Amendments to the Burkinshaw High Achieving Ethnic Minority Education Scholarship were also discussed, along with a foreign language proficiency requirement and the CAEP accreditation decision. An electronic ballot was distributed due to severe weather, and members voted on the admission of various groups to different programs. Department faculty meetings included discussions on first-year teacher assistance, Thelma Parks ES, student background checks, CAEP accreditation, elementary education SPA standards, and the Doctoral Program.
