This document provides an update on the strategic direction and progress of the Hemet Unified School District for the 2026-2027 school year. It outlines a vision focused on achieving equitable educational outcomes for all students by embracing, educating, and empowering them for college, career, and life, especially those who have been historically underserved. The district's strategic alignment is guided by four priority areas: championing student success, cultivating high-performing teams, strengthening community confidence, and ensuring careful and responsible management of resources. Progress includes anticipated improvements in graduation rates, English language arts and mathematics proficiency, and a significant reduction in chronic absenteeism. The update also details significant investments in facilities through 295 capital projects since 2019, totaling over $366 million, and discusses a new proposed bond measure for future facility needs and the opening of Pleasant Valley Elementary.
This superintendent's update focuses on the organizational scorecard, a tool designed to track leading data and progress toward strategic goals. The update reports significant achievements, including a 10% increase in literacy scores, resulting in 1,912 more students reading at grade level, and a 3.9% reduction in chronic absenteeism, representing 1,146 fewer chronically absent students. While overall system-wide improvements are noted, the scorecard identifies persistent achievement gaps for students with disabilities, homeless, and foster youth in both literacy and chronic absenteeism. The update showcases successful initiatives such as data-driven literacy interventions at Winchester Elementary, positivity cards and parent engagement strategies for attendance at Whittier Elementary, and student-feedback informed menu development by nutrition services to boost breakfast participation. The overarching goal is to improve student outcomes by identifying and addressing pain points through continuous improvement cycles.
The committee reviewed project status updates for various school facilities, including the new construction at Pleasant Valley Elementary School and modernization projects at other sites. Financial reports detailing Measure X expenditures, including budgets and interest transfers for multiple school sites, were examined. The committee also discussed the annual report, project timelines, and future bond feasibility.
