Staff Development Committee Meeting
The committee addressed several operational and planning matters. Key discussions included adjusting the meeting time to conclude at 7:45, and updating the 2025-2026 Staff Development Plan to reflect recent committee and school board changes. A review of past expenditures was conducted to inform the 2026-2027 budget options. The committee selected Budget Option 1b as the proposed budget for 2026-2027, which retains 65% of 2025-2026 funding levels for buildings, noting a significant reduction in funding allocated to the extracurricular category. The proposed budget adjustment, particularly regarding extracurricular funding, was accepted with the understanding that funds may be supplemented from other categories or the Reserve Fund if necessary. The update on Suicide Prevention Training was postponed. The committee agreed to use a combination of building-level meetings to determine staff development needs for the upcoming year, with a potential focus area being the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the classroom identified for future discussion. A brief review of the Draft Plan for the Fall Workshop 2026 was conducted.

Staff Development Committee Meeting
The meeting addressed changes to Policy 213 SCHOOL BOARD COMMITTEES, noting that school board members are no longer included on the district staff development committee, and its meetings will no longer be open to the public. Key budgetary discussions involved the unanimous approval to fund the PEM portion of the salary and benefits for the Director of Curriculum and Instruction position for three years, utilizing a framework similar to Option 1 for budget distribution. The committee also reviewed the long-term sustainability of funding both the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and the Technology Integration Specialist positions, noting that reserve funds may be depleted within two to three years. Furthermore, the committee unanimously approved adding a non-voting member position for a retired teacher to provide input on staff development needs, naming Laurie Yankosky to the role. The committee also planned to ensure representation for those with extra-curricular positions. An update on Suicide Prevention Training was postponed, and future business will focus on 2026-2027 Staff Development Priorities, Goals, and the Fall Workshop.
